A Superior Court judge on Friday said the murder trial of Devaughndre Broussard, charged in killing journalist Chauncey Bailey, will likely start in February.

“There’s more work to be done” before the trail can start, Judge Morris Jacobson said during a brief hearing. He scheduled another hearing for Dec. 12 when he said he hoped a specific date could be set.

Broussard, who was arrested Aug. 3, 2007 — one day after the slaying — pleaded not guilty in January. He is charged with shooting Bailey three times with a sawed-off shotgun as Bailey walked to the Oakland Post.
